Product overview of VESTOSINT® polyamide 12 nylon powders

VESTOSINT® coating powders manufactured from the base polymer with technically challenging processes affords various physical, chemical and electrical properties that make it perfect for a broad spectrum of applications:

  • good bonding to metals
  • high impact strength
  • high mechanical strength, elasticity, and surface hardness
  • low water uptake and water-vapor permeability
  • good resistance to water, even hot or detergent-containing water
  • low thermal conductivity
  • good electrical insulation and dielectric strength
  • compliance with food law requirements
  • ease of cleaning
  • absence of bacterial growth

VESTOSINT® coated surfaces retain these properties even at temperatures well below zero.

In addition to these considerable practical advantages, the coated metals also have an attractive appearance. More than 1,500 color formulations are available for VESTOSINT® fluidized-bed powders, and special colors can be provided on request. Metallic-effect colors are particularly worth mentioning; they are permanently colorfast even in contact with water.

We designate as fine powders those polyamide 12 powders with a particle size of less than 100 µm. VESTOSINT® fine powders were being used as coating additives as long ago as 1980. They are also excellently suited for production of thermoplastic composite materials from glass, carbon, aramid, or steel fibers, as well as for minicoating and electrostatic flame-spray processes.

Coatings

Various particle sizes and particle-size distributions of VESTOSINT® fine powders can be used individually or in mixtures. Our customers can take advantage of this for very precise fine-tuning of surface structure, with the polyamide powder being incorporated into the coating system via functional groups. This results in hard-wearing and highly elastic coatings on a wide variety of substrates. VESTOSINT® fine powders serve, for example, as matting or texturing agents, bringing about the following improvements:

  • increased wear resistance
  • increased elasticity
  • reduced dirt uptake
  • reduced friction

They are used

  • in the coil-coating process
  • in textured coatings
  • in wood paints
  • in coatings for rubber surfaces
  • in coatings for packaging foils

Composites

VESTOSINT® fine powders are also excellently suited for producing thermoplastic composite materials with fibers of glass, carbon, aramid, or steel. Unlike thermosets, these materials can be remelted and remolded. They can be wrapped, pressed, laminated, or woven, and are used in the construction sector and the aviation, automotive, and offshore industries.
